Several members of the Rockford Lightning will be out and about in the Rockford
community on Thursday, March 2nd, to help celebrate the birthday of Dr.
Seuss.
Theodor ("Ted") Seuss Geisel passed away on September 24, 1991. Dr. Seuss as he
came to be known will forever be remembered as one of the greatest writers of all
time. The man who brought us such classics as "Green Eggs and Ham", and "The Cat in
the Hat" will be celebrated for generations to come.
Dr. Seuss was born on March 2nd, 1904 in Springfield Massachusetts. The Rockford
Lightning will be out in the Rockford community as they help children in the area
celebrate the 102nd birthday of one of their all-time favorite writers.
Former University of Illinois forward Roger Powell and the newest member of the
Lightning Dale Miller will start off the day at Bloom elementary school in Rockford
to read some of their favorite Dr. Seuss books to students beginning with a 9:00 am
gathering in the library. The two Lightning players will stick around to talk with
the children about their own educations and some of their memories of Dr. Seuss, and
even sign some autographs with the kids.
The two members of the Rockford Lightning that appear to be the most excited about
Dr. Seuss Day are Freddy Flash and Head Coach Chris Daleo. "I love my green eggs
and ham" said Coach Daleo as he enthusiastically talked about going to read to
elementary schools tomorrow evening.
Coach Daleo and Freddy Flash will head over to Windsor elementary at 6:00 pm for a
special outing celebrating the birthday of one of their favorite writers. Coach
Daleo will read his favorite Dr. Seuss book to the kids and answer some questions
before heading over to Rock Cut elementary for his second reading of the
day.
The Lightning are coming off of their first 7-0 victory of the season. After moving
into a first place tie in the Eastern Conferece, the team will take a few days off
before preparing for the Yakama Sun Kings on Tuesday, March 7th, at the MetroCentre.
Game time is set for 7:05 P.M. (CST) with doors opening at 6:00. Kids tickets are
half price, and there will be a limited number of seats sold for $1.49 courtesy of
WXRX. Group tickets can be purchased at a discounted price through the Lightning
