Lightning Assigned Washington and Dennis

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Lightning have announced DB Jerome Dennis and DS Gerard Washington have been assigned to the Lightning by the arenafootball2 League Office.

Dennis, a 6'1," 196-pound rookie was on the Lightning roster earlier this season before being placed on recallable reassignment on May 10 and returns to the team after spending time with the Spokane Shock. Dennis recorded 25 total tackles while with the Lightning, including a team-high 10.5 tackles in a 60-46 win at Quad City, the Lightning's first win in franchise history. Dennis did not see any game action while with the Shock.

Dennis played college football at Utah State University (NCAA), where he served as a team captain. In 2002, he ranked seventh in the nation in average return yardage (27.7). Dennis also spent time in training camp with the Indianapolis Colts in 2005.

Washington, the second cousin of former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jerry Rice, is an af2 rookie who joins the Lightning after playing college football with the University of Massachusetts (NCAA Division I) and Benedict College (NCAA Division II).

The 6'1", 187 Washington was named to the first team All-SIAC in 2005 and second team in 2003. In three years at Benedict, Washington recorded 176 total tackles, including, 17.5 sacks and three interceptions. He also led the team in sacks in 2004 with 8.5.

Washington also played one season with UMass, seeing action in 11 games and recording 41 total tackles with eight tackles for a loss, two sacks and one interception.

Before attending UMass, Washington attended C.A. Johnson High in South Carolina where he was names All-State and an honorable mention Prep Star All-American.
