THE STAKES: The Dusters are clinging to their playoff life-line, but basically control their own destiny over the final 6 weeks of the season. 5 of the Dusters' final 6 opponents are in the National Conference. The Dusters must capture a win in order to stay alive in the playoff race. The Coyotes look to avenge last-season's overtime loss in the regular season to the Dusters. The Coyotes and Dusters both finished with 8-8 records in 2005, but the Dusters advanced to the playoffs due to the head-to-head tie-breaker.
COACH PERDUE'S THOUGHTS ON CENTRAL VALLEY:
"Pretty much every game from here on out is do or die. Central Valley is very talented, just like last season. They have a good quarterback and good skill players. They put heat on the quarterback. They aren't 6-4 by accident. We need this game. The players know that they control their own destiny, one game at a time. We can't hang our heads and worry about injuries and stuff like that. It's time to see what we are made of."
HOT LEG, BIG HEART:
Dusters K Jacob Felton currently leads af2 with a 94.5% PAT percentage (52 of 55 kicks). In addition to his prowess as an accurate kicker, Felton has also made a tremendous impact on special teams. He is one of the Dusters special teams leaders with 7 solo tackles.
KEY MATCHUP: QB PLAY
Brian Zbydniewski will get his first start at QB for the Dusters, after seeing action last week against the Rio Grande Valley Dorados. Scott Rislov leads the Central Valley attack, and has had a stellar season thus far. Rislov has tossed 65 touchdown passes, and is on pace to break the af2 single season record which was set last season by Matt Sauk (99 td's).
TURNOVERS, TURNOVERS, TURNOVERS
The Amarillo Dusters and Central Valley Coyotes are two of the top teams in af2 with respect to turnover margin. The Coyotes are ranked #1 overall in af2 with a +15, while the Dusters are #3 overall with +10.
