LHP Eric Jokisch Activated From Disabled List

KODAK, Tenn. - The Chicago Cubs announced several transactions that impact their Double-A affiliate Tennessee Smokies. LHP Eric Jokisch has been activated from the disabled list and will be the starting pitcher for the Smokies tonight against the Jacksonville Suns at Bragan Field. In a corresponding move, RHP Kevin Rhoderick has been released from the Cubs organization. Additionally, RHP Dayan Diaz was added to the Smokies roster this past Friday.

The Smokies roster is now at 25 active players, which is the Southern League maximum.

Jokisch, 24, is 8-10 with a 3.84 ERA (51 ER/119.2 IP) in 21 starts for Tennessee this season. He has struck out 106 batters in 2013, which currently ranks him fifth in the Southern League. The left-handed starter was named the Cubs Pitcher of the Month for April where he posted a 3-1 record with a 1.84 ERA for the Smokies that month. The Virginia, Ill. native was selected by the Cubs in the 11th round of the 2010 MLB draft out of Northwestern University.

Diaz, 24, joins the Smokies for the first time in his career. The right-handed reliever posted a 0-1 record with a save and a 2.45 ERA (3 ER/11.0 IP) in six appearances with the High-A Daytona Cubs. The Cartegena, Colombia native signed a minor league contract with the Cubs in 2012.

Rhoderick, 24, was 1-5 with a 5.65 ERA (27 ER/43.0 IP) in 33 relief appearances for the Smokies in 2013. The Scottsdale, Ariz. native was drafted by the Cubs in the ninth round of the 2010 draft out of Oregon State University.
