Stars Roster Moves
August 6, 2013 - Southern League (SL1)
Huntsville Stars News Release
On Tuesday, the Huntsville Stars made a slew of roster moves. Both P/OF Micah Owings (from AZL Brewers) and C Anderson De La Rosa (from Triple-A Nashville) were transferred to the Brewers while C Adam Weisenburger was placed on the disabled list (retro to 8/4).
For Weisenburger, it is his second stint on the DL this season. He missed 21 games in the month of May. Overall this season, the Southern League Mid-Season All-Star is hitting .251 with five homers and 24 runs batted in. This disabled list stint is retroactive to 8/4.
De La Rosa, 29, was hitting .260 with two homers and 19 runs batted in during 65 games with the Sounds this season. Before being with Nashville all of 2013, De La Rosa has spent parts of four seasons with the Stars (08, 10, 11), including all of 2012. With Huntsville last year, De La Rosa hit .228 with six homers and 24 runs batted in over 64 games.
Owings, a six-year MLB vet, was returned from his rehab stint with the AZL Brewers and transferred from the Brevard County (A+) disabled list to the Stars active roster. The Georgia Tech product is making his mark as a two-way player, being listed as both a RHP and a outfielder.
Owings began the 2013 campaign with the Syracuse Chiefs (Triple-A Nationals), where hit .265 with 8 homers and 31 runs batted in before being released by Washington on July 1st. He was signed by the Brewers on July 12th, hitting .222 in nine at-bats while tossing three scoreless innings in two appearances with the AZL Brewers. Prior to this recent stint with AZL Brewers, Owings last pitched in 2012 with San Diego, going 0-2 with a 2.79 ERA in six appearances with the Padres.
In the big leagues, Owings has compiled a 32-33 record with a 4.38 ERA in 138 career appearances while also sporting a lifetime .283 batting average with nine homers and 35 runs batted in over 205 career MLB at-bats.
Jersey numbers for De La Rosa and Owings will be determined before tonight's series finale against the Mississippi Braves at Joe Davis Stadium.
The Stars active roster now sits at 25 players, right at the Southern League maximum.
