Green Bay Blizzard News Release

The 7,258 screaming fans of the Blizzard "9th Man" gave it everything they had on Buck Night to help Green Bay's defense keep the Horsemen from scoring from one yard out with just 2.9 seconds remaining in the game, but in the end, it was not the photo finish the Blizzard was looking for.

In a thrilling horserace between division leading Green Bay and the expansion Lexington Horsemen, the Horsemen took the lead as time expired when QB Eddie Eviston connected on a pass in the end zone with WR Tavon McGee. The contest had seen multiple lead changes and ferocious battles on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball before the Blizzard fell to the Horsemen 48-49 as the final gun sounded.

Dave Krieg, a 19-year NFL veteran, who joined the Blizzard ownership group during this past off-season, was on hand to see the Blizzard win the toss and defer the kickoff. After the Blizzard defense stopped the Horsemen on a missed field goal, Green Bay QB Colin Drafts connected with WR Antoine Burns to score the first points of the game and take a 7-0 lead.

The Horsemen, however, would not trail for long, scoring 16 unanswered points on two Eviston touchdown passes and a safety on Blizzard QB Colin Drafts to bring the score to 16-7 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Blizzard "9th Man" saw the teams trade scores before Green Bay clawed their way back to within one point at 29-30 on kicker Bob Forstrom's field goal with 12 seconds left in the half. During that time, the Blizzard overcame several long kick returns by the Horseman and a failed Blizzard on-side kick.

As the second half commenced the Blizzard and Horsemen would trade the lead, working their way to a 42-43 Lexington lead with only 2:15 left on the game clock. The Blizzard took possession and manipulated a drive that resulted in a touchdown pass from Drafts to Burns with only 33 seconds remaining in the game. With the PAT yet to come, the Blizzard opted to try for the two point conversion to advance their lead to seven, but Draft's passed sailed incomplete and the Blizzard remained in the lead 48-43.

The Horsemen would take possession and on three plays complete the winning drive with an Eviston touchdown pass and take 49-48 victory back to Lexington, KY.

The Blizzard will have a week of rest before retuning to U.S. Cellular Field at the Resch Center to take on long-time rival the Peoria Pirates. The Blizzard and Pirates will face off on Friday, May 30th, 2008 at 7:30 PM on Fox Communities Credit Union Night! The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a Brian Noble Bobblehead courtesy of Fox Communities Credit Union. Tickets start at only $8 and are available through the TicketStar Box Office at (920)494-3401.
