Texas Copperheads News Release
Houston, TX - Austin QB Andy Hall completed 23 of 33 passes for 238 yards and 6 TD passes to lead the Austin Wranglers to a 61-17 victory over the Texas Copperheads. Hall also rushed once for a 2 yard TD. For his efforts, Hall was recognized as the Schutt Offensive Player of the Game.
The Wranglers dominated the first half and lead 41-3 at the break. Just 63 seconds into the first quarter, Hall tossed a 33 yard scoring pass to John Roberson. The TD pass was the first of three Hall would send to Roberson in the first half. Austin's next two TD's came on the ground in the form of a 2 yard run by Hall and a 1 yard plunge by Kamau Jackson. Hall closed out first half scoring with a 14 yard pass to Sean Henley. Texas' lone points came off the foot of Nick Gatto who connected on a 40 yard field goal on the first play of the 2nd quarter.
Austin's Jackson scored his second rushing TD of the evening at the 9:01 mark of the 3rd quarter to put the Wranglers ahead 47-3. On the ensuing kick off, Armar Watson fielded the ball 4 yards deep in his own end zone and brought it back 40 yards before being stripped by Austin's Barrett Dallmeyer. The ball bounced perfectly off the turf into the waiting arms of David Kennebrew who scooted 14 yards into the end zone for the Copperheads' first TD of the evening.
Hall answered Texas' TD by finding Roberson for their fourth TD connection of the night. The six yard scoring play put Austin ahead 54-10 at the 6:20 mark of the 3rd quarter. On the night Roberson collected 14 passes for 175 yards. Roberson also returned a missed FG 47 yards.
The Copperheads scored their only offensive TD at the 3:32 mark of the 3rd quarter. Rudy Carlton, playing in relief of starter Stephen Wasil who threw 3 first half interceptions, found Armar Watson with a 31 yard strike. For the third consecutive week, Watson was recognized as the JLS Ironman of the game. Watson caught 3 passes for 59 yards, rushed once for 2 yards, accounted for one defensive tackle and returned 6 kick offs for 150 yards.
Austin scored the game's final TD when Hall found former Copperhead Bryan Carroll with an 8 yard toss for his 6th TD pass of the evening.
