Lexington Sporting Club News Release
Lexington Sporting Club suffered a 1-0 defeat on the road at Regal Soccer Stadium against One Knoxville SC, ultimately coming up short in the inaugural Barrel Brawl Derby between the two clubs.
The loss brings the club's record to 6-11-6 (24 points), standing at 10th in the league standings. The result also saw One Knox improve to 8-9-7 (31 points), residing in 7th in the league.
Lexington SC entered the match on the back of a 3-2 win at home against CV Fuego FC, which marked the second consecutive victory for the club.
Both teams kicked off the third and final installment of the 2023 Barrel Brawl unwilling to give an inch, with only two total shots being recorded in the first 20 minutes of play.
The visitors were given an advantage in the 39th minute when One Knox's Giovanni Calixtro was shown a straight red for a high kick to Terique Mohammed.
Despite the advantage, both clubs entered the break deadlocked at 0-0.
Needing to win in order to claim the first edition of the Bourbon Barrel trophy, disaster struck for Lexington in the 49th minute when Knoxville's Angelo Kelly-Rosales was able to slot one past Amal Knight for the first, and ultimately only, goal of the night.
While the visitors continued to try to put up attempts, it was the home side who ultimately came the closest to a second goal before the full-time whistle ended the match 1-0.
Lexington SC controlled the possession in the match, holding the ball 63.6% of the time while One Knox won in expected goals, seeing a 0.74 to 0.36 advantage.
Next up for Lexington SC the boys in green will return home on August 26th to face off against Richmond Kickers.
