Lewis Signed to 7-Day Contract

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Fever has announced the signing of four-year WNBA guard Doneeka Lewis to a seven-day contract. She has joined the team for practice during its Olympic Break, with the term of her contract beginning when the Fever resumes its schedule on August 28.

The 5-9 Lewis appeared in seven games for the Seattle Storm last season, first for a pair of seven-day contracts and ultimately the end of the season. A standout shooting guard at LSU where she helped the Tigers to the Final Four as a senior in 2003, Lewis is capable of playing both guard positions. She joins a Fever squad whose backcourt has been depleted by a wrist injury to Sherill Baker and the absence of Australian Olympic Team member Tully Bevilaqua.

Lewis scored 10 points and had six assists during 33 minutes of action with the Storm last summer, and was waived during 2008 training camp. The 25th overall pick in the 2004 WNBA Draft, Lewis holds career averages of 3.7 ppg, 1.2 rpg and 1.7 apg in 97 games. Lewis spent her first three WNBA seasons with the Los Angeles Sparks, where she appeared in 90 games and averaged 3.9 points.

Along with her twin sister Roneeka Hodges who plays for the Houston Comets, Lewis is one of three sets of twins in WNBA history. She changed her last name after marrying Gentry Lewis in 2004.

The Fever, 12-14 at the Olympic Break, resumes its schedule with a pair of home games at Conseco Fieldhouse - Thursday, Sept. 28 against the Connecticut Sun (7:00 p.m.) and Saturday, Sept. 30 against the Atlanta Dream (7:00 p.m.) Led by WNBA All-Stars Tamika Catchings, Katie Douglas and Tammy Sutton-Brown, the Fever bids for its first WNBA Finals appearance after reaching the Eastern Conference Finals in two of the past three seasons.
