Jupiter Hammerheads News Release
The Jupiter Hammerheads got back in the win column on Thursday night against the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels. After losing the first two games of the series and a 50 minute rain delay to start the game, the Hammerheads won 4-1 at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.
Offensively, the Hammerheads were powered by two big home runs, one from Brett Roberts and the other by Ian Lewis. Tied at one in the fifth, Roberts connected for a solo shot to left center field. It was Roberts second homer of the season. Lewis then added to the 2-1 lead with his first home run of the season in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Jordan McCants also contributed with an RBI single in the bottom of the third inning to get the scoring started. The Pensacola native was the only Hammerheads player with multiple hits, going 2-3 on the night.
On the mound, Ike Buxton got the start and earned his third win of the season. The Idaho native pitched five innings, with a new career-high eight strikeouts. The 22-year-old allowed just one run and lowered his ERA to 1.91 on the season.
Out of the bullpen, Chris Mokma threw 1.2 hitless innings before Evan Taylor earned the save with 1.1 innings of shutout baseball.
The Jupiter pitching staff struck out a total of 14 batters on the night.
The Hammerheads and Mighty Mussels will continue their series on Friday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium, with first pitch scheduled for 6:00 PM.
