Windsor Spitfires News Release
(Windsor, ON) - Vice President and General Manager Warren Rychel is pleased to announce Trevor Letowski as the new associate coach of the Windsor Spitfires.
Letowski, 38, played 13 professional seasons, including 616 National Hockey League games with the Phoenix Coyotes, Vancouver Canucks, Columbus Blue Jackets and Carolina Hurricanes.
He spent the last five years coaching the Sarnia Sting; the last two as the club's head coach.
Letowski joins newly-hired Rocky Thompson (head coach) and holdover Jerrod Smith (assistant coach) behind the Spitfire bench.
"I saw first-hand what he did with a young Sarnia team last year," Rychel said. "There were no easy games there and his club was always well prepared. After sitting with him, we were really impressed. He's young. He's got some great ideas. After losing a great coach like Bob (Boughner), we think we've got a very promising staff. Trevor will be a big part of it."
Letowski says he had a good feeling about coming to Windsor from the outset.
"Working in the league, I've always had a lot of respect for the organization. For what Bob (Boughner) and Warren have built," he said. "Then, being in Windsor last week and talking to the guys, and the rest of the ownership group, I just had a really good feeling about it all." Letowski says a conversation he had with Thompson sealed the deal. "That was the key," Letowski noted. "Who you'll be working with and spending most of your time with. It was important to talk to Rocky. His passion is obvious. Right away, I thought we had real good chemistry. A lot of same philosophies. How to treat players. I look forward to working with and learning from him."
