Owen Sound Attack News Release
The Owen Sound Attack is announcing that Assistant Coach Drew Bannister will be leaving the Attack organization to assume the Head Coaching duties of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds Hockey Club. Drew spent three years as an Assistant Coach with the Attack after being hired in the summer of 2012. While as a member of the Attack, Bannister also served as an Assistant Coach of the Ontario Under 17 team in 2014 and won a Canadian Winter Games Gold Medal with the Under 16 team in 2015.
As a player, Bannister spent four seasons with the Greyhounds where he won two consecutive OHL Championships and appeared in three consecutive Memorial Cups before culminating in the National Championship in 1993. He also won a World Junior Gold Medal in 1994 with Team Canada.
"It's a bittersweet day for our organization.", stated Attack General Manager Dale DeGray. "We valued Drew as a member of our staff and what he was able to bring to our organization will be missed, but we are also happy for him and his family for their next chapter. We wish Drew, his wife Katie and their children nothing but the best moving forward."
Bannister, 41 will now step behind the bench of the Greyhounds, a team that won the Hamilton Spectator trophy last season as the Ontario Hockey League's top team with 110 regular season points.
"I owe the Attack organization, fans and the City of Owen Sound a heartfelt thank you for making my three years here a welcoming and unforgettable experience.", said Bannister. "Moving on is always difficult, but moving from a place that has meant so much to me and my family was an extremely difficult decision for me. The opportunity to assume a Head Coaching position in this league wouldn't have been possible without the guidance and great opportunity that Dale DeGray and Greg Ireland afforded me in Owen Sound. Their guidance and mentorship has proven to be invaluable."
Bannister and the Greyhounds will make their first and only visit to the Bayshore on Saturday, October 3rd.
