
Leon Shuts Down Vibes

(Colorado Springs, CO) The Orem Owlz pitching staff shut down the Rocky Mountain Vibes as the Owlz won the series opener, 3-1, over the Vibes on Thursday night at UCHealth Park.
Owlz pitching held the Vibes to just one run on six hits, without issuing a walk. Matt Leon made his first start of the 2019 season and tossed five shutout innings.
David Clawson gave the Owlz a 1-0 lead in the first inning by slapping a single into left, scoring Jeremiah Jackson. The game remained 1-0 into the fourth when the Owlz doubled their lead on an Anthony Mulrine bases-loaded walk.
Andrew Blake made his second appearance of the season and threw two shutout innings.
The Owlz added an insurance run on a passed ball in the eighth, scoring Brandon White.
Rocky Mountain scored their only run of the game in the eighth and would bring the winning run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning but Tanner Chock (1) struck out back-to-back batters to end the game, earning his first save of the season as the Owlz knocked off the Vibes, 3-1.
Leon (2-1) earned his second win of the season while Cam Robinson (0-2) was charged with the loss. D'Shawn Knowles picked up three hits for the Owlz. The Owlz and the Vibes will continue the series Friday night at 6:40. Emilker Guzman makes the start for the Owlz.
