MONTPELIER, Vt. - Mountaineers' right-handed starter Sean Leland (Orland Park, Ill. / Louisville) earned New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) Pitcher of the Week honors for Week 5 of the 2015 season.
Leland earned his first win of the summer on Friday night at North Adams after dealing seven scoreless innings. He allowed just three hits and one walk in the outing and struck out a season-high eight batters, as Vermont came away with a 4-0 victory.
On the season, Leland boasts a 2.41 ERA with 18 strikeouts to just two walks in 18 and two-thirds innings.
The righthander becomes the first Mountaineer to win a weekly award since second baseman Thomas Roulis (New Hyde Park, N.Y. / Dartmouth) was named NECBL Player of the Week for his performances in Week 2.
