Milwaukee Wave News Release
MONTERREY, MEXICO (Nov. 29, 2007) - Marcio Leite's first MISL hat trick helped spark the Milwaukee Wave to a 23-17 victory against La Raza de Monterrey in their first trip south of the border this season.
Leite also assisted on Greg Howes' clinching goal with 20 seconds left for a career-best seven points. Brett Wiesner, a former Brookfield East High School star, scored two goals in the first half as the Wave overcame an early 7-3 deficit in a loud, hostile Arena Monterrey.
The Wave (3-2) won their first road game of the season with a burst at the start of the fourth quarter and a pair of great defensive efforts. La Raza, one of three new MISL teams, fell to 1-5.
Troy Dusosky spearheaded a key sequence in the third quarter after goalkeeper Nick Vorberg was called for a penalty. He took over as the keeper for the penalty kick by four-time MISL Defender of the Year Genoni Martinez. Dusosky stopped that kick, then remained in goal as the Wave killed the full 2-minute penalty.
Just as that power play expired, La Raza was called for a penalty, and Dusosky then scored on that power play to give Milwaukee a 13-11 lead.
The lead continued to see-saw, however, until Milwaukee scored three times in just about 90 seconds early in the fourth quarter. Two belonged to Leite, sandwiched around the first Wave and MISL goal for Warren Ukah. Those scores gave Milwaukee a 21-15 lead.
Tijani Ayegbusi then made a sparkling play to get back and clear a ball out of the goal after La Raza's Dino Delevski chipped one toward an empty net with 3:40 left and the Wave leading 21-17.
La Raza now travels to Milwaukee for a 6 p.m. Saturday kickoff at the U.S. Cellular Arena. It's WMIL/Stein Garden and Gifts Teddy Bear Toss for Toys for Tots, and the post-game Faith and Family Night program features music, inspirational messages and Christian improv comedy from Fish Sticks. The first 5,000 fans also will receive magnetic schedules, courtesy of Wise Savings. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster or by calling (414) 224-9283.
