All BSC students and Legion FC season ticket holders will be granted free admission, with the first 200 BSC students at the game to receive complimentary Chick-fil-A sandwich gift cards. Season ticket holders will receive an email with a link and instructions for claiming tickets for the game, and single game tickets are available HERE. Now in its 107th edition, the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup has crowned a champion every year since 1914, apart from 2020 and 2021. The tournament is conducted on a single-game-knockout basis and open to all professional and amateur teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer.
Legion FC advanced in the Cup competition after knocking off NPSL side Southern States SC 3-1 last week thanks to goals from Prosper Kasim, Bruno Lapa, and Marlon Santos. Black and Gold's third round opponent, South Georgia Tormenta FC, is from Statesboro, GA and currently competes in the third division of U.S. soccer, USL League One. Tormenta knocked off Birmingham's fellow USL Championship side the Charleston Battery in the second round of the USOC.
This year's Open Cup winner will receive $300,000 in prize money, a berth in the 2023 Concacaf Champions League and have its name engraved on the Dewar Challenge Trophy - one of the oldest nationally-contested trophies in American team sports.
In the meantime, Legion FC's next home game is Wednesday, April 27, at 7:00pm at Protective Stadium versus the Charleston Battery.
