Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC News Release
Colorado Springs, CO - The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC and the USL Championship officially announced today that Brendan Burke has been named as Coach of the Month for March in the 2022 campaign.
"Brendan [Burke] and staff are some of the hardest working, action oriented people in the game," said Switchbacks FC President Nick Ragain upon hearing the results of the vote. "This recognition is well deserved."
"I would start by saying that with so many good coaches in this league it is a big honor for our entire technical staff and our players," said Head Coach and General Brendan Burke. "This is very much a recognition of team performance and the credit for it can be spread up and down our staff and locker room."
Burke joined the Switchbacks FC in 2021, with extensive experience in the USL Championship and Major League Soccer. He won the Supporters' Shield in 2020 with the Philadelphia Union as the club's Head of Recruitment Operations.
The Massachusetts native also spent time with Bethlehem Steel FC, now known as Philadelphia Union II. Burke became the club's first ever Head Coach for the 2016 season before leading the club to the postseason in 2017 and again in 2018 when the club reached the Eastern Conference Semifinal. Burke also completed his United States Soccer Federation "A" Coaching License in 2018.
During his time in the PDL, forty nine players that played under Burke went on to sign professional contracts, including current MLS players Ray Gaddis, C.J. Sapong, Matt Hedges, Alex Bono, and Fatai Alashe. In his first season with the Switchbacks, Burke led his team to the playoffs for the first time since 2017, and finished the season with forty-nine points. He was also a finalist for Coach of the Year for the USL Championship in 2021.
