Lexington Legends News Release

The Lexington Legends scored a run with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat the Crawdads 2-1 at Applebees Park in Lexington, KY.

The game featured strong pitching by both teams throughout the night as both teams scored their only runs of the night in the sixth inning prior to the game winning run.

Lexington starting pitcher Jeff Icenogle was outstanding as he shut down the Crawdads offense. Icenogle faced the minimum number of Crawdad hitters in the first five innings, allowing only a single in the first that was erased on a double play.

Crawdads starter Michael Felix, rebounding from three straight starts in which he pitched a combined total of two innings, held the Legends scoreless in his five innings of work. Felix, after allowing five base runners in the first two innings, settled down over the next three innings allowing only a double in the fourth.

Hickory finally broke through the scoreless tie in the sixth with an unearned run. With one out in the inning, Silvio Pena reached on an error by Legends' 1B Kyle Miller. Pena moved to third on a single by Aeden McQueary and scored on a sacrifice fly by Keanon Simon.

Lexington got the run back against Crawdads reliever Francisco Ortiz as Brian Pellegrini hit his 21st home run of the season to tie the game.

Neither team mounted much of a threat until the 9th inning rally by Lexington. With Victor Igsema on the mound for Hickory, Brandon Barnes led off with an infield single. One out later, Barnes advanced to second as Julian Henson reached on an error by Crawdads 2B Greg Picart. Igsema issued a walk to load the bases before Craig Corrado lined a single to center for the game winning hit.

Jose Duran (1-1) pitched the final three innings of scoreless baseball for Lexington to earn the win. Duran allowed two hits and a walk in his three innings of work, striking out four. Igsema took the loss for Hickory leaving his record at 0-1 for the season.
