Abbotsford Heat News Release
Abbotsford, BC - The Abbotsford Heat are pleased to announce Darryl Sittler and Yvon Cournoyer as the honoured guests of the two remaining Legends of Hockey nights this season. Fans attending the games will have the opportunity to meet the Legends of Hockey and get an autograph.
Cournoyer, a 10-time Stanley Cup Winner, will be at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre (AESC) on Friday, November 30th when the Hamilton Bulldogs (AHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens) visit the Fraser Valley for the first of a two-game set.
Playing for the Montreal Canadiens for a decade and a half, Cournoyer was nicknamed "The Roadrunner" due to his stature and speed. The Drummondville, Quebec product was the Canadiens' captain for four Stanley Cup winning seasons. Cournoyer was also a member of the 1972 Team Canada squad that won the Summit Series against the USSR.
An iconic Maple Leaf, Sittler will visit the AESC on Friday April 12th, when the Toronto Marlies (AHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs) visit Abbotsford for the final home weekend of the regular season.
On February 7th, 1976, Darryl Sittler scored six goals and added four assists in an 11-4 win over the Boston Bruins to set an NHL record that remains intact nearly forty years later. Sittler was the first Maple Leaf to record a 100-point season and finished his 15-season NHL career with 1,121 points in 1,096 games.
Cournoyer was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1982, while Sittler would follow in 1989. Both were named in The Hockey News Top 100 NHL Players of All-Time publication.
Both remaining Legends of Hockey games are also Loonie Toonie Dog 'N Brew nights, part of the Heat's Big Ticket campaign to increase ticket value for fans.
