November 4, 2021 - NBA G League (G League)
Texas Legends News Release
FRISCO, TX - The Texas Legends have joined forces with Thrivent, a Fortune 500 diversified financial services organization, for a partnership that goes far beyond branding and basketball. The two organizations will combine their platforms to bring awareness and resources to a number of local non-profits in the North Dallas area, focusing on financial literacy and career readiness programs for underserved communities.
Thrivent is a purpose-driven organization, as evidenced by their clients' more than 9 million volunteer hours in 2020 alone. Building off their strong reputation of generosity, the partnership focuses on unique community assets centered around financial education and career support programs. Currently serving more than 2 million clients, Thrivent has been helping people "thrive with purpose" since 1902.
"Thrivent has been making a difference in communities around the country for over a century," said Legends President Malcolm Farmer. "This partnership highlights, celebrates and expands the work they are already doing. Our mission and Thrivent's purpose both include a desire to help people use their resources and talents well and give back in meaningful ways. That's who the Legends strive to be, and that is who Thrivent is."
The partnership aims to build a bridge in the community for local Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and their students. Along with an internship program, Thrivent will host a job fair and financial education event for HBCU students and alumni in the North Dallas area. The goal is to help more people achieve clarity when it comes to their finances and discover career opportunities. The partnership will ramp up next season with an HBCU Classic, presented by Thrivent and hosted by the Legends.
In an effort to help even more households in the community receive financial education and in response to Thrivent's belief that everyone deserves a plan, the organization will host a set of webinars for people who are looking for tools to manage their finances. Additionally, faculty and students from Paul Quinn College, a local HBCU in the area, will receive coaching from Money Canvas, a program Thrivent created to help people improve their financial well-being by creating healthy budgeting, saving and spending habits.
"We partnered with the Legends because we think this will be a truly impactful collaboration," said Thrivent Diversity & Inclusion Field Sales Enablement Lead Sam Bryant. "We speak the same language. We're both working to make our world a better place both now and in the future."
Thrivent will be the presenting sponsor of two charity nights throughout the course of the 2022 season. The first will be held on Martin Luther King Jr. Day and will celebrate Black History while shining a light on the significant programming and opportunities that Paul Quinn College affords its students, staff and surrounding community. Thrivent will also be teaming up with the Legends to host youth clinics on-site at Paul Quinn College for the neighborhoods they serve.
"We are thrilled to be partnering with the Legends," said Liz Mikel, manager of Community Engagement and president of the Thrivent Member Network. "Our teams worked diligently to find ways to maximize our time and efforts in giving back on both sides. We're going to do just that and have a lot of fun while doing it."
Thrivent, the official and exclusive Financial Services Provider of the Legends, will have prominent branding on the Legends' home jerseys and in the Comerica Center for all games.
"The values that Thrivent was founded on combined with their purpose to better every community they touch align perfectly with what we try to do as a team," said Farmer. "The goal for our two organizations was to create a partnership that we both can be proud of and that will benefit the community around us. We're beyond excited to get to work with the newest members of our Legends Family."
As a financial services organization, Thrivent is committed to providing advice, insurance, banking, investments, and generosity programs and solutions that help people achieve financial clarity, enabling lives full of meaning and gratitude.
