Randy Leek (10-2) kept the Maryland bats in check, allowing just one unearned run on six hits over six innings of work. The Ducks got on the board early. Juan Francia picked up an infield single and advanced to second base on a error. A wild pitch move the speedster to third before P.J. Rose chased him home with a base hit to left. In the third, the Ducks increased their lead on a two-run homer by designated hitter Kyle Nichols, the highlight in a 3-for-4 night for the slugger. Francia had three hits as well and two runs scored. Ray Navarrete picked up an RBI on a groundout in the eighth.
