Washington Spirit News Release
Washington, D.C. - The Washington Spirit have re-signed Lee Nguyen as an assistant coach in 2022 after retiring from a successful playing career. Nguyen first joined the Spirit staff on October 6, 2021.
Nguyen spent 15 years playing professionally across the globe, including in Europe, Vietnam, and Major League Soccer in the United States. The former USMNT member is currently working towards his 'B' Coaching License. An attacking midfielder by trade, Nguyen spent much of his time with the Spirit in 2021 working with the midfield and forward groups. Nguyen returns to the Spirit after helping the club towards the 2021 NWSL Championship.
Nguyen had this to say about returning: "I'm grateful and excited to be returning to the Washington Spirit with such a great staff and amazing group of players. I'm committed to growing the women's game in our country and I look forward to defending our title in 2022. Can't wait to get to work."
"One of my goals after being named head coach was to bring Lee back as part of our coaching staff," Head Coach Kris Ward said. "He was an incredibly important part of our championship run and I know the group is excited to have him return."
