Washington Spirit News Release
Leesburg, VA. - The Washington Spirit are proud to announce that Lee Nguyen will join the club's technical staff as an assistant coach, effective immediately until the end of the 2021 season. Nguyen joins the Spirit after the V.League 1 season in Vietnam was canceled due to Covid-19.
Nguyen has spent 15 years in the professional game, playing throughout Europe, Vietnam and Major League Soccer here in the United States. An attacking midfielder by trade, Nguyen scored 77 goals in 360 career appearances. The Richardson, Texas native is currently working towards his 'B' Coaching License.
Nguyen had this to say about the opportunity: "I'm super excited to join the Washington Spirit team. To be a part of the staff to help Kris [Ward] and the players to make a positive push till the end of the season and hopefully into the playoffs. These are exciting times in a season when you're playing for a playoff spot and every game matters. I just want to thank Ben [Olsen] and the organization for the opportunity and hopefully I can share my experiences to help the team."
"We are thrilled to have Lee join the Spirit Family," Spirit President Ben Olsen said. "His playing experience here in the states and abroad will give the group added support for our playoff push."
