Lee, Miracle Complete Sweep of Marauders

FORT MYERS, Fla. (April 30, 2013) - The Fort Myers Miracle completed a three-game sweep of the Bradenton Marauders on Wednesday night with a 6-2 win at Hammond Stadium.

With the win, the Miracle wrapped up an eight-game homestand with a 7-1 record and now have a two-game lead in the Florida State League South Division.

Bradenton starter and the Pittsburgh Pirates No. 3 prospect Tyler Glasnow struggled with his command in the first inning. After one out, Glasnow (0-1) issued a walk to Travis Harrison and then retired Jorge Polanco on a grounder to short. Glasnow proceeded to walk the next three hitters to force in a run. With the bases loaded, Adam Brett Walker worked an 0-2 count full before picking up a RBI on a free pass.

The Miracle added to the lead in the second with the help of more Glasnow issues. Max Kepler earned a five-pitch walk, then stole second base. A wild pitch moved Kepler to third. Glasnow then began to throw a pitch to Stuart Turner, but held onto the ball all the way through his delivery for a balk. Kepler trotted home to push the Miracle advantage to 2-0.

Fort Myers starter Brett Lee worked three scoreless frames before the Marauders crossed home plate in the fourth on a RBI ground out from Eric Wood.

With a 2-1 lead, the Miracle defense held strong as Lee (3-1) ran into trouble in the fifth. Jose Osuna led off the inning with a dribbler up the middle and Max Moroff followed with a liner to left. Jacob Stallings laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the Marauders to second a third. Jeff Roy then hit a one-hopper to Polanco at short. Osuna raced home, but Polanco threw a dart to catcher Stuart Turner. Osuna collided with the Miracle catcher, but Turner held on to record an out and keep Bradenton off the board.

The play at home in the fifth was the second time that Polanco and Turner hooked up to cut down a Marauder at home plate. In the third, Moroff was gunned down trying to score on a steal of home.

The Miracle created some separation in the sixth with three runs. Mike Gonzales started the inning with a single up the middle. After a Walker fly out to center, Niko Goodrum blooped a base hit into right. Max Kepler, the next batter, smashed a 1-0 pitch from Bradenton reliever into deep right center field for a triple that plated Gonzales and Goodrum. One out later, Levi Michael roped a single into right to bring in Kepler and push the Miracle lead to 5-1.

Bradenton and Fort Myers traded runs in the seventh and eighth innings. Moroff picked up a RBI on a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh and Michael knocked in a run with a fielder's choice in the bottom of the eighth.

Brian Gilbert replaced Lee for the Miracle in the eighth inning. Facing just seven hitters in the final two innings, Gilbert recorded his fourth save of the season by posting two scoreless frames and notching five strikeouts.

Lee picked up the win for the Miracle while scattering nine hits and allowing two runs. Lee walked one and struck out five.

Glasnow was the losing pitcher after just two innings with two runs charged on one hit and seven walks.

Michael finished 2-for-5 with two RBI and a pair of stolen bases. Goodrum went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Kepler was 2-for-2 with two RBI, two runs, a pair of walks and an outfield assist.

The Miracle (16-10) visit the Palm Beach Cardinals (10-16) at Roger Dean Stadium for a three-game series beginning on Thursday. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. Fans can listen to the action on www.miraclebaseball.com with the 'Voice of the Miracle' Brice Zimmerman. The Head Quarters pregame show begins at 6:05 p.m.
