Led by Gasparini's Long Ball, Legends Halt Drive's Winning Streak in 7-5 Victory

FLUOR FIELD (Greenville, SC) - The Lexington Legends snapped the Greenville Drive's seven-game win streak with a 7-5 victory in game three of the series. The Legends improve to 47-45 while the Drive drops to 40-54.

The Legends were the first to strike in the top of the second inning. Sebastian Rivero led off with a single to left field then moved to second base when Marten Gasparini drew a walk. Ricky Aracena then put down a bunt down the third baseline, but the third baseman Tanner Nishioka committed a throwing error, allowing Rivero to score. Lexington jumped out to a 1-0 lead.

The Drive answered in the bottom of the second. Zach Sterry drew a leadoff walk then moved to third on a single by Jordan Wren. Frankie Rios then singled on a soft line drive to left field, scoring Sterry and advancing Wren to second base. Samuel Miranda then smacked a bases clearing double to left field and Greenville led 3-1. Kervin Suarez put down a sacrifice bunt to advance Miranda, but a throwing error by Lexington's pitcher Charlie Neuweiler allowed Mirando to score and Suarez was safe at second base. Nishioka then lined an RBI single to center field and Greenville led 5-1.

Lexington started their comeback in the top of the fourth inning. Manny Olloque hit a leadoff double to left field then moved to third on a single by Cal Jones. Gasparini brought home Olloque on a single to right field and the Legends still trailed 5-2.

The Legends tied the game in the top of the sixth inning. Olloque tripled to centerfield then scored when the next batter Jones, singled him home and Lexington pulled within two runs. With Jones at first, Gasparini blasted a two-run homer to right field, tying the Drive 5-5.

In the top of the ninth, Gasparini led off with a double then was joined on the base path when Aracena singled down the third baseline. Cristian Perez then hit the ball back to the pitcher, Durbin Feltman, who committed a throwing error, allowing Gasparini and Aracena to score. The Legends were able to hold on to the 7-5 lead and take game three from the Drive.

Holden Capps was awarded the win for Lexington, pitching 3.0 scoreless innings allowing just two hits while walking one and striking out six. Feltman was given the loss tossing 1.0 inning allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits while walking one.

Jacob Condra-Bogan earned the save in his perfect ninth inning, striking out all three batters he faced. Condra-Bogan has not allowed a run or hit in 6.0 innings through his five last outings for Lexington. He has retired 14 out of the last 15 batters he has faced and has struck out eight in a row.

The Legends and Drive will meet for the series finale tomorrow, July 17 at 11:05 a.m. Lexington will send RHP Jackson Kowar to the bump for his second professional start and Greenville will start RHP Hildemaro Requena (3-1, 4.98 ERA).
