Portland Beavers News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - Wade LeBlanc allowed one run on two hits over seven innings to lead the Portland Beavers to a 3-1 victory over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox before 7,567 Sunday afternoon at PGE Park.

After allowing a first inning run, LeBlanc (2-5) retired 19 straight batters before giving up a hit in the seventh. The lefthander fanned six Sky Sox batters and has now surrendered two or fewer runs in six of his last seven starts.

Mike Baxter finished 3-for-5 with a homer and two runs scored, Val Pascucci had a pair of hits and an RBI and Chad Huffman added two knocks for the Beavers (39-45).

Mike Ekstrom pitched a perfect eighth inning and Eulogio De La Cruz (5) finished off the ninth to earn the save as the Beavers held their opponent to a season-low two hits.

Sky Sox starter Adam Eaton (3-2) took the loss after yielding two runs on nine hits through six innings.

Daniel Ortmeier drove in the solo run for the Sky Sox (49-34), who were held to two hits or fewer for just the second time this season.

Eric Young Jr. walked to lead off the first inning, stole second during the following at-bat and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Ortmeier to give the Sky Sox an early 1-0 lead.

Baxter tied the game at one run apiece with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth.

Back-to-back singles to begin the inning, which chased Eaton and brought in reliever Ben Julianel, and a two-out RBI single by Pascucci broke a 1-1 tie in the seventh frame.

Sean Kazmar added an insurance run in the eighth, scoring from second on a fielding error by the Sky Sox.

The Beavers face Colorado Springs again Monday night, 7:05 p.m. (Pacific), at PGE Park.

NOTES: The Padres selected catcher Jose Lobaton and designated right-handed pitcher Edwin Moreno for assignment ... catcher Kurt Wideman was transferred from Class A Eugene to Portland to fill the open spot ... Baxter has now collected multiple hits in 11 of his 25 games with Portland.
