
Lawson Agrees to Terms on Qualifying Offer

BRIDGEPORT, CONN (July 2, 2010) - The New York Islanders announced today that they have agreed to terms on a one-year, two-way (NHL/AHL) contract with goaltender Nathan Lawson.
Lawson, 26, enters his fourth professional season and his third in the Islanders organization. The Calgary, AB native posted a 2.52 goals against average and a .922 save percentage in 36 games last year with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. In his first AHL campaign in 2008-09, Lawson earned a spot on the AHL All-Rookie team with 19 wins and a 2.16 goals against average with a .927 save percentage. He has ranked second overall in save percentage in the AHL and in the top 20 in goals against average in each of his two seasons with the Sound Tigers.
"Nathan has shown over the past two seasons that he has the ability to play at an extremely high level in the AHL," Islanders General Manager Garth Snow said. "From his collegiate career to the ECHL to the AHL, we've seen his numbers steadily improve each season and we're excited for Nathan to continue his development within the Islanders organization."
Lawson (6'2, 191 lbs.) played his collegiate hockey at the University of Alaska-Anchorage, where he was voted team MVP and Rookie Of The Year in 2004-05. In three seasons with the Seawolves, he played in 75 games while posting a .906 save percentage and a 3.24 goals against average. Lawson began his professional career in the 2007-08 campaign and played for both the Phoenix Roadrunners and the Utah Grizzlies, compiling 17 wins in 29 games.
