DAYTONA BEACH, FL - The Florida State League named Gavin LaValley the Player of the Week for August 29-September 4, the final week of the season, on Monday afternoon. LaValley went 9-for-21 (.429/.478/.952) with two home runs, seven RBIs, seven extra-base hits, and eight runs scored.
It's the first weekly award in LaValley's career and the eighth for the Tortugas this season. LaValley becomes the fourth Tortuga to win in the last six weeks, and the sixth different position player for Daytona this season.
LaValley ended his season by reaching base in each of his final 10 games, batting .405 during that stretch. It concluded with a 4-for-5 performance in Sunday's finale, which included a career-high five RBI's for LaValley. All four hits went for extra bases and drove in a run.
Overall, LaValley ended his first season in the FSL with a .275 batting average, a career-high 11 home runs, and 61 runs batted in.
St. Lucie's Andrew Barbosa won the FSL Pitcher of the Week award.
