Launch to Host 'Pink Out' Game
May 9, 2018 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL)
Florida Launch News Release
After a commanding win Sunday against the Denver Outlaws, the Launch make a quick turnaround, hosting the Boston Cannons this Thursday, May 10 at 7 PM at FAU Stadium.
In support of Major League Lacrosse's Real Men Wear Pink Campaign, this game against the Cannons will be a "Pink Out" Game. Fans are encouraged to join players in wearing pink and can pledge donations for every goal, save, or groundball their favorite player collects in support of the American Cancer Society's fight against breast cancer. At the end of the month, all proceeds are donated to ACS breast cancer research efforts. This year, the Launch have three players taking on the challenge-Steven Brooks, Austin Kaut, and Sergio Salcido.
In last week's game, the Launch took full-field control over the Outlaws. The defense caused seven turnovers and picked up eight groundballs between the four long-pole defenders. Meanwhile, three players on the
attack side recorded hat tricks including Kieran McArdle, Dylan Molloy and Mike Tagliaferri. McArdle recorded a total four points in his return to MLL action while Tagliaferri collected his first MLL goal and hat trick. Goalie Austin Kaut made 21 stops in the cage, a season-high for the five-year veteran and currently leads the league in save percentage. For his efforts, Kaut took home the Warrior Defensive Player of the Week.
The winless Boston Cannons will be coming in looking for not only their first win of the season but also revenge from last year's game, where the Launch beat the Cannons by one goal to secure a spot in the 2017 MLL Playoffs. In that battle, Kieran McArdle and Nick Mariano combined for eleven points to squeak out the win. The Cannons return attackman Davey Emala and are led by James Pannell and Sergio Perkovic through the first three games of the 2018 season.
Even though the Cannons enter week four without a win, Coach Mariano and the Launch coaching staff are going in with the same attitude as always. Mariano said, "We have the same mentality going into each week. Boston is stacked.... We treat every opponent like they are the best team in the country."
In conjuction with the 'Pink Out' game, throughout the month of May, Launch players will be using pink lacrosse heads to support the MLL Pink Challenge and the American Cancer Society. All heads will be autographed and auctioned off, with proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society. For more information on the MLL Real Men Wear Pink challenge, visit mllpinkchallenge.org.
