Reely to Automate Highlights for All of MLL in 2018
May 9, 2018 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL) News Release
BOSTON - In the first deal of its kind in professional sports, Major League Lacrosse (MLL) announced today that the California-based tech company REELY will use its artificial intelligence and machine learning software to automatically generate highlights of MLL games for every team to use in real time.
"This is the highest level of lacrosse in the world and we want to share our game with as many people as possible and as quickly as possible," MLL Commissioner Alexander Brown said. "The technology used by REELY will deliver our highlights to fans faster than ever before and help us share our great game with everyone."
REELY uses the latest artificial intelligence technology to watch sports and generate highlights automatically. The system can "learn" what specific plays look like, such as goals or big hits, and create a highlight clip within a matter of seconds of the event happening. From there, the highlight is easily distributed across social media channels.
"MLL has been an ideal forward thinking partner." said Ian Stephens, Co-Founder and CMO. "Our companies share a vision of the future where fans can enjoy highlights in real-time and MLL's desire to use REELY's AI in their workflow enables them to be the first league to make this vision a reality."
In just the first three weeks of this 2018 MLL season, highlight clips generated by REELY have received over 400,000 impressions on MLL's social media channels and delivered top plays to the public faster than ever before. MLL will continue to provide feedback on the software to help develop the most efficient highlight clipping and sharing system in professional sports.
