Lau and Martinez Returning to Pippins

YAKIMA, Wash. - More familiar faces are coming back to Yakima this summer, as the Pippins announced the signing of pitcher Connor Lau and outfielder Reid Martinez for the 2015 season. Both redshirted at Central Washington University this spring.
"I'm thrilled to welcome both Reid and Connor back to The Orchard this summer," said Pippins' Manager Marcus McKimmy. "Both played huge roles in our record-setting expansion season. Each of these guys have lived in Yakima previously, have a familiarity with the community, and have WCL experience that really helps at the start of the summer with any transition from the spring."
Lau, a right-handed pitcher and infielder, spent most of last summer on the mound for the Pippins. In 19 relief outings (21 2/3 innings), he went 1-1 with a 2.49 ERA and 2 saves. He sported a solid walk-to-strikeout ratio at 8 to 20 and brings a lot of experience and leadership to the Pippins this summer.
"Connor is a right-handed pitcher, utility infielder that has gotten a ton stronger since last summer," said McKimmy. "His greatest contribution this summer will be out of the bullpen again with the opportunity to close some games. I trust him in any situation. I still remember Opening Night 2014 when he closed out Wenatchee in front of over 3,000+ fans."
Martinez, a Seattle native, was one of the most consistent bats in the Pippins lineup a summer ago. In 48 regular season games, he hit .281 with 26 RBI (tied for 2nd on the team) and 27 walks (4th).
"Reid is a left/left [thrower and hitter] outfielder who can also play first base," said McKimmy. "Like Connor, Reid also brings a veteran presence and maturity that has immeasurable value to a team and locker room. Reid's best attribute is his ability to hit the ball to all fields and drive in runs."
