Late Score Costs Atlético Ottawa in Delayed Match
September 18, 2023 - Canadian Premier League (CPL)
Atletico Ottawa News Release
Atlético Ottawa suffered another last-minute heartbreak as the extended trip to Nova Scotia (with the match delayed 48 hours due to adverse weather conditions) ended in defeat to Halifax Wanderers despite a Sam Salter double.
KEY MOMENTS
Atlético Ottawa slipped to a narrow 3-2 defeat against playoff rivals Halifax Wanderers.
Atlético came storming out the blocks and the former Halifax striker Samuel Salter gave them the lead with a left-footed effort from the top of the box (13').
Salter had the ball in the back of the net earlier but was judged to be offside in a very tight call.
Despite a barrage of opportunities, Ottawa was unable to double the advantage in the first half with Ollie Bassett coming closest.
Halifax brought the match level minutes after the interval as Massimo Ferrin finished from close range (49').
The hosts then took the lead soon after through Jordan Perruzza (56').
Salter thought he'd salvaged a point for Ottawa in the final minute (90') only for Halifax striker Tomas Giraldo to score the winning goal deep into stoppage time (90'+3).
Atlético Ottawa has reached the mandated 2,000 minutes to be played by u21 Canadian players per season.
Gabriel Antinoro (19 years old) and local defender Tyr Walker (19) both started and played a combined 146 minutes tonight.
Zachary Roy (20) and CF Montréal-loanee Jean-Aniel Assi (19) also contributed to the mandate throughout the season.
Atlético Ottawa returns to TD Place for the final time in the regular season next Sunday in a massive clash against Valour FC (Winnipeg).
