Lexington County, S.C. - A game with playoff implications the whole way ended in dramatic fashion, as a late High Point-Thomasville rally in the ninth inning shocked the Lexington County Blowfish on Saturday night. The HiToms defeated the Blowfish 3-2, moving within a half-game of the Blowfish for the final playoff spot in the West. Before the game, the Blowfish Media Team earned a walk-off win in the 10th Annual Media Softball Game

A throwing error scored Peter Johnson, who had reached on a leadoff double in the top of the ninth inning.

The HiToms had previously trailed for most of the game before tying it up the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded by Nick Lopez.

The Blowfish took two separate leads in this game. A pair of wild pitches following a Brett Auckland (Presbyterian College) double would bring him home.

They would also get some two-out magic on this night to take their second lead. Deric Boone (Auburn Univeristy Montgomery) reached on a fielder's choice that could have easily killed a rally--that is, until Jared Williams (University of South Carolina) stepped into the box. Williams blasted an RBI triple into the left-center field gap to plate Boone and take the lead. Batesburg-Leesville's marching band performing the national anthem before Saturday's game

Double plays ended significant rallies for the Blowfish on Saturday. The HiToms, who turned the most double plays all season long, turned two to end the first inning, where the Blowfish had runners on the corners, and the seventh, where the Blowfish had the bases loaded.

Charlie Barnes (Clemson) put forth another quality start for the Blowfish. Across 7.0 innings, he walked nary a soul, and struck out eight batters.

Starting with two runners on and nobody out in the second inning, Barnes retired 17 of 18 batters. The only one who was not retired in that order was David Sheaffer's solo home run that tied the game at one apiece.

The Blowfish continue to hold the fourth and final playoff spot in the West, and will play a few must-win games to keep their lead in the division.

Only three games remain in the 2015 regular season. Up next is a trip to Florence for the 16th and final game with the RedWolves. Join the live action on Z93.1 FM The Lake or on the Blowfish mobile app starting at 5:55 p.m.

The final two home games of the season will fall on Monday, when the Blowfish host the Forest City Owls for two seven-inning games.
