Chattanooga Lookouts News Release

Two runs were too little, too late for the Chattanooga Lookouts Thursday night.

Faced with a five-run deficit going into the ninth inning, the Lookouts put two runs on the board and threatened for more, but the visiting Mobile Bay Bears called on closer Kevin Munson, who struck out Gorman Erickson (who was looking for his third hit) and pinch-hitter Omar Luna for his third save, and second in as many nights, to wrap up a 5-2 victory.

The series continues Friday night at AT&T Field, with the Lookouts (12-20) yet to set a starter for the game.

Thursday starter Andres Santiago began his outing with three shutout innings -- but was matched out for out by Bay Bears starter David Holmberg (1-2). Holmberg wound up turning in one of the best performances by a Lookouts' opponent in 2013, finishing his night with eight shutout innings, allowing only five hits no walks and striking out eight.

The Bay Bears, converting two Lookouts errors into a pair of unearned runs, took a 4-0 lead into the ninth inning -- where pinch-hitter delivered a pinch-hit home run off Lookouts reliever Luis Vazquez. But far from down and out, the Lookouts welcomed the chance to come back on the Mobile bullpen.

Joc Peterson, now in the thick of the Southern League batting race at .333, began the inning with a bunt single. After a wild pitch, Yasiel Puig doubled home the Lookouts' first run. One out later, C.J. Retherford followed suit, driving a double to score Puig. Munson came on at that point and put out the fire.
