INF Anthony Giansanti joins Tennessee from Single-A Daytona; OF Johermyn Chavez placed on DL

KODAK, Tenn. - The Tennessee Smokies, Double-A minor league affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, announce this afternoon that INF Anthony Giansanti has been added to the team's active roster. In a corresponding roster move, OF Johermyn Chavez has been placed on the team's disabled list. Both moves are immediate, with Giansanti being available for the team's 11:30 a.m. game with the Birmingham Barons.

The Smokies active roster remains at 25, which is the Southern League maximum.

Giansanti, 24, rejoins the Smokies where he started the season before being sent to the High-A Daytona Cubs on April 23. In five games with Tennessee, the Acentura, Fla. native held a .400 batting average (2-for-5) with a double. The right-handed infielder signed with the Cubs as a non-drafted free agent in 2010.

Chavez, 24, heads to the disabled list holding a .206 batting average (13-for-63) with four doubles and three RBIs. The Turmero, Venezuela native signed with the Cubs as a free agent in 2012.
