Erie Otters News Release
Erie, Pennsylvania - The Thanksgiving Weekend festivities continue for the Erie Otters, as they welcomed the Barrie Colts into town on Saturday night for their first meeting in over 1000 days. With back-to-back wins on home ice during the week of thankfulness against the Ottawa 67's and Soo Greyhounds, Erie would hope its success would continue against a Barrie team coming in off a tough loss to Niagara on Friday night.
A high-shooting, low-scoring first period of play would await the two teams, as both goaltenders Kyle Downey and Ben West would stop everything that came their way in the game's start. Downey would have a slow start to the workday, but stop all 10 shots faced by the period's end. Meanwhile, on the opposing side, West would stop all 12 that came toward his netfront enroute to a shutout first period for both goaltenders. Erie would lead in shots 12-10, but be 0/1 on the man-advantage in a scoreless affair.
The second period would start off quick for the Barrie Colts, as it would take just :28 for Evan Vierling (8) from Jacob Frasca. The 1-0 lead for Barrie would hold to be a tough goal to overcome, as the offense would continue in favor of the Colts. Past the halfway point of the game, Ethan Cardwell (11) would collect his fourth goal of the weekend to give Barrie a 2-0 lead. As the period would come to a close, the Otters would continue to outshoot the Colts 23-20, but be held scoreless after 40 minutes for the first time this season - down 2-0.
With the anticipation remaining for Otters fans to finally get to toss their teddy bears, it would be Overage Forward Noah Sedore (4) that would get the goal to bring the bears down just 3:04 into the period. As Erie's offensive pressure would continue, it would be Carey Terrance (9) on the power play that would make it a tie game for the first time. As the Otters would continue their pressure and push to overtime, a Bruce McDonald trip would lead to a Barrie power play. With the ensuing man-advantage, the Colts would take a 3-2 lead as Hunter Haight (3) would strike with less than a minute left. On an empty-net, Jacob Frasca (8) would put the game on ice, as Barrie would end their road trip with a 4-2 win over Erie.
The Otters load up the bus tonight to head to Kitchener for a Sunday afternoon intradivisional affair. Erie is 2-0 this season against the Kitchener Rangers, and looks to continue their success against division foes. Erie returns home on Wednesday evening for a rivalry battle with the London Knights for Imagination Library Night (pres. by United Way of Erie County). Erie is 2-0 against London this season.
