Nearing 1 a.m. on Thursday morning, CF Miguel Abreu came through with the biggest hit of the 2011 season. With two outs in the bottom of the eighth, Abreu hit a RBI single to right field which scored SS Manny Machado from second base. Abreu advanced to second on the throw home. C Brian Ward followed Abreu with a clutch hit of his own. Ward singled to center as Abreu scored the game's winning run. The Keys 3-2 win over the K-Tribe tied the best-of-five game series at one.
Following a three hour and seven minute rain delay, game two of the Mills Cup Championship Series started at 10:07 p.m. The Keys struck first in the bottom of the first inning. Facing RHP Michael Goodnight, SS Manny Machado reached via a two-out walk. 1B Aaron Baker brought Machado home on a RBI double off the left-center wall.
Kinston tied the game up with one swing of the bat in the fourth inning. 1B Jesus Agular led off the frame with a solo shot to center field. Later in the inning, with two on and one out, RF Delvi Cid lined a pitch off Rick Zagone's foot. Cid's single loaded the bases as Zagone exited the contest due to injury. RHP Ryan O'Shea entered. Facing O'Shea, Holt grounded into a fielder's choice. 3B Dale Mollenhauer came home on the grounder for the second out of the inning. O'Shea then got LF Bo Greenwell to groundout to first to end the threat.
The Indians, however, would take the lead in the top of the seventh inning. Delvi Cid led off the inning with a double and eventually scored on an Adam Abraham sac fly.
Trailing by a run, Manny Machado started the eighth inning with a single off RHP Kyle Landis. Baker stepped to the plate next. Baker hit a deep fly to center field. Tyler Holt made the catch for the first out of the inning. Machado alertly tagged up from first. The 2010 first round pick beat the Holt's throw to second. After a Jacob Julius strike out, Miguel Abreu came to the dish. Prior to Abreu's at bat, the Keys were 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position on the night. The Carolina League veteran came through with a clutch single into right field. Machado easily scored as Delvi Cid's throw was up the line. On the throw, Abreu advanced to second. Brian Ward followed up Abreu with a run scoring single to put Frederick on top by a run.
Sean Gleason closed out the game with a 1-2-3 ninth inning as the Keys prevailed with an exciting and exhausting game two victory. The final out of the contest was made at 12:44 a.m.
With the win, Frederick tied the series up at one. Game three of the Mills Cup Championship Series will be on Thursday night in Kinston, NC. RHP Scott Copeland will take the hill for the Keys while the K-Tribe will turn to LHP Mike Rayl. First pitch from Historic Grainger Stadium is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
