
Late inning rally gives Dillas 8-2 win; Up 1-0 in series

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Dillas offense struggled at points on Friday night, but strong Dillas pitching and a big eighth inning gave Amarillo a 8-2 win over the San Angelo Colts in game one of the United League Championship Series at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa in front of 1,240 fans.
Dillas reliever Albert Ayala (2-0) got the win in three-and-a-thirds innings, allowed only two hits and no runs. Colts reliever Tom Martin (0-1) got the loss, going two-thirds of an inning and allowed five runs in the eighth.
Amarillo struck first in the first as Stantrel Smith doubled with one out. Following a Carlos Figueroa walk, Terrance McClain singled home Smith for a 1-0 Dillas lead.
The Colts got their first hit and first runs in the fifth inning. With the bases loaded, Brian Frichter drew a walk to bring home Ronnie Gaines to tie the game while Selwyn Langaigne singled to center to score Hunter Jobes for a 2-1 Colts lead.
Amarillo tied the game in the sixth as Trent Lockwood led off with a single, went to second on an error, to third on a fielder's choice and scored on a Willie James RBI single to tie the game 2-2.
The Dillas finally broke through to take the lead in the eighth. Back-to-back walks to Eric Brown and Justin Wenger were followed by a James single to load the bases. Keanon Simon stepped in and singled home Brown to give the Dillas the lead. Stantrel Smith followed with a two-RBI single, followed by a wild pitch to score Simon. Figueroa grounded out to score Smith, while Angel Reyes doubled him home for a six-run inning and a 8-2 lead.
Ayala finished things off in order in the ninth to preserve the 8-2 victory in game one.
With the win, the Dillas take a 1-0 series lead over the Colts. Saturday, Amarillo will play their final home of the season against the Colts in the second game of the United League Championship Series at 7:05pm with Dillas Pre-Game set to begin at 6:50pm on AudioSportsOnline.net. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
