San Angelo Colts News Release


Amarillo, Texas---San Angelo (3-1) came out swinging against Amarillo (3-2) in game two of the best-of-five series as the Colts downed the Dillas 12-4. The best-of-five series for the ULB championship is tied at one. United League MVP, Bryan Frichter, earned a 4-4 night with two runs, a hit-by-pitch, and a walk; John Anderson reached base five times and touched home on three occasions.

Brian Henschel (2-0) performed on three days' rest to provide the Colts with seven innings of four run baseball. Suffering the defeat was Richard Jessup (0-1) as he squandered six runs in three frames.

The Colts leapt to the edge in the first. With two outs, Rich Paz delivered a booming solo shot to left field. It was his first homer with San Angelo to give the road team a 1-0 lead.

In the next inning, the Colts extended the lead in the second. John Anderson walked and with one out scored on a double to right-center by Hank Lanto. After two were retired, Hunter Jobes was hit by a pitch, Paz took a bases on balls and Frichter belted a two-run single to left. It was 4-0 San Angelo after two frames.

Offensive production continued for San Angelo in the third. Jason Landreth came up with a base knock and Anderson took a pass. The runners advanced to second and third on a sacrifice by Butch Ballez. Ronnie Gaines slugged a two-run double, with two outs, to center and gave the road squad a 6-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Dillas were able to spurn a rally against Henschel. A double by Trent Lockwood, with two runners on, cut the Colts lead to five runs. After a strikeout to Angel Reyes, An Eric Brown RBI ground-out pushed home Terrance McClain, the second run of the contest. After the completion of four innings, the Colts held a 6-2 advantage.

The scoring continued for the Colts in the fifth frame. Anderson singled, Ballez

followed up with a sacrifice bunt. An aggressive Anderson then swiped third base. Lanto found a good pitch to hit and singled to left field driving in Anderson. Lanto's second RBI of the game allowed the Colts to take a 7-2 lead.

San Angelo's offensive outburst persisted in the top of the sixth. Frichter singled and nabbed second base with a steal. A wild pitch from pitcher Justin Phillips gave Frichter third. A bloop single off the bat of Jason Landreth sent Frichter to the plate. The inning continued with a single by Anderson, including a throwing error by Terrance McClain. That knock brought Landreth home all the way from first base. Through five and a half, San Angelo stood atop the Dillas 9-2.

Three more crossed the plate for the Colts in the seventh. Lanto started the rally with a hit-by-pitch. After Ronnie Gaines struck out, Jobes singled. With two retired, Frichter plated Lanto with a base hit. Selwyn Langaigne knocked in Jobes with a single. On the play, Frichter advanced to third and eventually scored on a wild pitch. It was 12-2 road team. Amarillo put up two more in the seventh but was unable to comeback .

Tommorrow features game three between San Angelo and Amarillo. The game is set for 7:05 PM while the gates open at 6:05. Angelo State students can purchase general admission tickets, to Foster Field for $3.00, with proper student identification. Hot dogs and draft beer are $1.00 while soda and aluminum bottles of beer are $2.00. The Kemps Ice Cream pre-game show begins at 6:50 on KCLL COOL 100.1 FM.
