Late home run helps Royals win

SURPRISE, AZ - Catcher Kiel Thibault belted a three-run homer in the eighth inning, snapping a 2-2 tie and helping the Omaha Royals to a 5-3 win over the Oklahoma RedHawks Monday at the Spring Training complex that the two clubs share in Surprise, Arizona.

Omaha second baseman Richard Lewis snapped a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning by smacking a two-run double.

Lefty Jason Cromer started for the Royals and hurled three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit. Veteran southpaw Eddie Yarnall kept the shutout going in his first two frames, but surrendered two runs in his last inning of work in the sixth as the RedHawks rallied to tie the contest.

Neal Musser, the third straight lefty to take the mound for Omaha, fired two scoreless innings, giving up one hit and no walks, while striking out three batters.

Royals shortstop Irving Falu went 2-for-4 with a run scored in the victory, which evened the Royals Cactus League record at 2-2-1.

Omaha and the rest of Kansas City's minor league affiliates are scheduled to play intrasquad games on Tuesday.

The Royals open their 2007 Pacific Coast League season on Thursday, April 5th at Albuquerque, with the home opener at Rosenblatt Stadium slated for Friday, April 13th at 7:05 p.m., also vs. the Isotopes.
