Late Fergus Homer Not Enough as Threshers Drop Finale

CLEARWATER, FL - Cade Fergus homered in the ninth inning to avoid a shutout as the Clearwater Threshers (36-14) lost 5-1 in the series finale against the Dunedin Blue Jays (25-26) on Sunday afternoon at BayCare Ballpark. The Threshers hit the road to take on the second-place Fort Myers Mighty Mussels with the first game beginning on Tuesday evening.
Dunedin scored the first run of the game for the first time since Tuesday with an RBI single in the top of the first inning. An RBI triple and a balk plated two more for the Blue Jays in the sixth to extend their lead to 3-0.
The Blue Jays added two runs in the top of the ninth before Fergus hit a solo home run out to left to end the shutout. The next two batters retired for the Threshers, and they fell 5-1 in the series finale.
Estibenzon Jiménez (1-1) took the loss in 4.0 innings and allowed one run on two hits with three walks and four strikeouts. Jaydenn Estanista allowed two runs on one hit in 1.2 innings with three walks. Seth Nightingale tossed 1.1 scoreless frames with one hit allowed and two strikeouts. Eduar Segovia allowed two runs on one hit in 2.0 innings with two walks and two strikeouts.
Fergus has four of his six home runs against Dunedin...He now has the team lead and is tied for seventh in the Florida State League...Reyes extended his on-base streak to 11-straight games...Nightingale has thrown 2.1 shutout innings since coming off the injured list at the beginning of the week...The Threshers travel to Fort Myers for six-game series against the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels (Minnesota Twins, A) on Tuesday, June 6th...
