LAKELAND, FL - Ricardo Rosario drove in two runs for the second-straight game, but the Clearwater Threshers (75-42, 31-21) dropped their second consecutive game by a 6-2 margin against the Lakeland Flying Tigers (60-57, 34-18) on Friday night at Joker Marchant Stadium. The Threshers look to avoid their third straight loss on Saturday evening in Lakeland.
Lakeland got on the board first with three runs scored in the bottom of the second inning to take an early 3-0 lead. Chad Castillo singled with one out in the sixth and moved to third on a hit by Aidan Miller off Lakeland's starter Colin Fields. Ricardo Rosario plated them both on a single to right but was thrown out trying to leg out a double. The sixth inning ended with the Threshers trailing by one run at 3-2.
The Flying Tigers added one run in the seventh, and Cristian Santana hit a two-run homer in the eighth to double Lakeland's lead to 6-2. The Threshers got a runner on board in the ninth but couldn't get him home, falling 6-2 to the Flying Tigers in their second-straight loss.
Alex McFarlane allowed three runs on one hit with three walks and one strikeout in 1.1 innings. Nathan Karaffa struck out two in 2.2 shutout frames with three hits allowed. Alex Rao tossed 1.0 scoreless inning with one hit allowed, one walk and one strikeout. Casey Steward allowed one hit and walked two in 1.0 shutout frame with one strikeout. Hunter Loyd allowed one run on one hit with one strikeout in 1.0 inning. Brandon Beckel walked one and allowed two runs on one hit in 1.0 inning.
Steward and Loyd tossed scoreless innings in their Single-A debuts...Rosario has four RBIs in three games this series...Miller has steals in each of his first two games with the Threshers...He recorded his first hit and run scored as a Thresher in the sixth...Castillo has hit safely in six straight games...Karaffa topped 2.0 innings for the third consecutive outing...The Threshers continue their road trip against the Lakeland Flying Tigers on Saturday, August 26...
