Windsor Express News Release
(WINDSOR, ON) Windsor's defense stood up with 6.6 seconds left and the Express won their fourth game in a row, 92-91 over the London Lightning at the WFCU Centre on Wednesday night.
The Express took an 8 point lead into the final frame, only to trail with 16 seconds left before Quinnel Brown drove into the middle of the key and put up the game winning shot.
The victory makes Windsor 4-1 on the season, moves them into first place in the NBL Central Division and keeps them undefeated on home court in four contests.
"We refuse to lose at home." Head Coach and Director of Basketball Operations, Bill Jones said after the game.
"London had the number one spot coming in here, Mississauga had the number one spot too, but we went out and found a way to be successful."
Windsor carried a 21-19 advantage after the first period and extended that lead to 11 at the half, thanks to DeAndre Thomas, who had 15 points in the first two quarters.
Thomas finished with a team high 21 points and five rebounds.
Tony Bennett haunted his former team with a 13 point, 13 assist performance, playing over 41 minutes.
London was led again by Marvin Phillips, who dropped 25 points, the Lightning's second loss this year.
With the win, the Express have tied the season series at 1-1 and the all-time mark at 10-8 in Windsor's favor.
"London and Windsor is a tough rivalry. They told me that when I first got the job here and it's the truth." Jones said, "I can see the remainder of the games this season against London going this way."
The two teams will connect at Budweiser Gardens on Sunday, November 23rd at 2:00pm, while Windsor finishes the home portion of their November schedule next Wednesday, the 26th against the Moncton Miracles at 7:00pm.
