Clearwater Threshers News Release

CLEARWATER, Fla. - It was an offensive explosion by the Threshers on Sunday afternoon, as they were able to salvage the series finale with an 8-3 victory over the Charlotte Stone Crabs.

The bats came alive for several players as eight of the nine batters recorded a hit, with the Threshers tallying seven extra base hits on the afternoon. Henri Lartigue led the offense, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, and drove in three runs, a season-high. Over the last three Sundays, Lartigue has gone 7-for-12 with seven RBIs, two doubles and two home runs.

Ramon Rosso (2-0) picked up his second win in as many appearances for Clearwater (10-6) (42-42). He pitched five innings, allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits and struck out three. The earned run was his first since June 6 while he was a member of the Lakewood Blue Claws. Rosso surrendered four walks which tied a career-high, as he walked four on August 13, 2017 as a member of the Williamsport Cross Cutters.

Rosso was relieved by Jakob Hernandez in the sixth inning, and he allowed one run over two innings, struck out four and walked one batter. In 26 appearances, Hernandez has struck out four or more batters seven times. Kyle Dohy entered the game in the eighth inning and went a perfect six up, six down. Dohy struck out three in two innings of work and recorded his second save as a Thresher. In his time with Lakewood this season, he went 7-for-9 in save opportunities.

Blake Bivens (5-2) received the loss for Charlotte (8-9) (42-42) as he allowed three runs on eight hits, walked one and struck out three in 4.2 innings. The eight hits were a season-high allowed by Bivens. It was also his shortest outing since June 6 at Dunedin.

The Threshers allowed a run in the first as Lucius Fox reached via an error by Rosso, and he scored on a double from Miles Mastrobuoni. Rosso was able to work out of the first inning jam by recording two flyouts and a strikeout of Rene Pinto.

In the third inning, Jose Gomez led off with a stand-up double and tagged up on a fly ball to left field from Arquimedes Gamboa. Lartigue drove in Gomez with a two-out single to right field to tie the game at one.

Jake Fraley led off the fourth inning for the Stone Crabs with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Jermaine Palacios. Kevin Padlo walked, then a double steal put runners on second and third. David Olmedo-Barrera pulled a groundball to second base which scored Fraley to put Charlotte back ahead, 2-1.

A three-run inning came in the fifth for the Threshers after Luke Williams doubled and was driven in by Lartigue to tie the game at two. The Stone Crabs turned to Hunter Schryver, and the first batter he faced was Mickey Moniak who hit his second home run of the season. The long ball extended the lead to 4-2.

Grenny Cumana led off the sixth inning with a single and came around to score in large part to Gomez's first triple of the season. Gomez finished the afternoon going 2-for-4. He scored on a sacrifice fly from Gamboa to extend the advantage to 6-2.

Clearwater scored two more runs in the eighth to make it 8-3, as Williams reached on a fielder's choice and Haseley laced a triple to bring in Williams from first. Lartigue's second double of the game drove in Haseley to cap off the victorious Sunday.

The Threshers will head on the road for a six-game road trip beginning Monday in Dunedin. Adonis Medina will face off against Maverik Buffo at 6:30 p.m. The Threshers Broadcast Network will begin the pregame show at 6:15 p.m on Threshersbaseball.com.
