
Largest Canadian Championship Crowd in Club History Expected on Tuesday

VANCOUVER, BC - With five days to go until the 2022 Canadian Championship Final against Toronto FC, Vancouver Whitecaps FC are expecting the largest Voyageurs Cup crowd in club history. Kickoff for the Tuesday, July 26 match will be at 7:30 p.m. PT, with tickets available at whitecapsfc.com/tickets. For group tickets, visit whitecapsfc.com/groups.
"Excitement has ramped up and Tuesday will be our largest ever crowd for a Canadian Championship match. Although we have already hit a season high in single match tickets, we are continuing to sell between 500 to 1,000 tickets per day," said Axel Schuster, Whitecaps FC chief executive officer and sporting director. "It's the Canadian Championship Final and we are going for our first trophy since 2015 so I encourage everyone to get your tickets today."
More than 18,000 tickets have already been sold in anticipation of the Canadian title tilt. Limited inventory remains in the supporters standing room general admission section. The 'Caps record for attendance in a Canadian Championship match is 19,616 when the club last won the Voyageurs Cup in 2015.
Whitecaps FC are offering fan and family friendly specials for all fans at the Canadian Championship Final, including a free STAND BY ME t-shirt for the first 15,000 fans, as well as 50 per cent off all drinks until the end of the first half. Fans are also invited to attend The Warmup pre-game party on Terry Fox Plaza starting at 4:30 p.m. PT, featuring a DJ, food and beverage specials, giveaways, and face painting. The first 100 fans at The Warmup will receive an Asahi Super Dry from 'Caps CEO Axel Schuster.
The club's three Designated Players - Lucas Cavallini, Ryan Gauld, and Andrés Cubas - are also hosting a section at the match and inviting anyone named Lucas/Lucy, Ryan, or Andrés/Andrea to a free ticket to join. Anyone who would like to sit in their section can also purchase a ticket by e-mailing canchamp@whitecapsfc.com.
The winner of the Canadian Championship will lift the Voyageurs Cup and qualify for the 2023 Concacaf Champions League against the best clubs from North America, Central America, and the Caribbean.
The Voyageurs Cup has been awarded to the Canadian Championship winner since 2008. Created by the Voyageurs Canadian Supporters group, the trophy represents Canadian fans' commitment to the game in our country. At the completion of the competition, the tournament MVP is named as the George Gross Memorial Trophy Award winner. The Young Canadian Player Award is presented to the best Canadian player in the competition 23 years of age or under.
