Laredo's Cullaton, Bossier-Shreveport's Blair Earn December Honors
Published on January 8, 2004 under Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release
The Laredo Bucks have enjoyed a remarkable sophomore season, in large part due to the play of right winger Brent Cullaton, the Central Hockey League's leading scorer and the recipient of the Sherwood CHL Player of the Month award for December. In 13 December games, Cullaton posted eight goals and 14 assists, and his 22 points led all players during the month. Included in his impressive monthly totals are three shorthanded goals and three game winners, and Cullaton recorded points in 12 of 13 contests, during which the overall CHL-leading Bucks went 10-2-1. Cullaton sits atop the CHL scoring race with 65 points, and has been voted to start for the Southern Conference in the Dodge 2004 CHL All-Star Game in Albuquerque, New Mexico and was also named Captain of the Southern Conference All-Star team. Hailing from Petawawa, Ontario, Cullaton's 1.91 average points per game has him on pace for a 122-point campaign.

The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs posted an outstanding mark of 10-1-1 during the Month of December, and received consistently excellent goaltending from Jeff Blair, today named the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Month. Blair sported a near perfect record of 5-1-0 during the month, allowing just five total goals against. His only loss of the month came December 23rd at Memphis, falling 1-0 to the RiverKings despite allowing just a single goal. Twice in December Blair recorded shutouts; both against the Tulsa Oilers. Blair made 33 saves in a 4-0 win December 19th, then stopped 25 shots December 30th to pick up his first two shutouts of the season. Blair and Northern Conference All-Star starting goaltender Ken Carroll combine to give Bossier-Shreveport one of the top netminding tandems in the CHL this season, a key factor in the Mudbugs' Northern Conference best record of 21-7-3.
