Amarillo Dillas News Release

AMARILLO, TX - Amarillo Dillas pitchers had a tough time handling Laredo batters as the Broncos powered past the Dillas with 19 hits and a 12-8 score on Tuesday night in front of 2,175 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.

Dillas starter Taylor Allen (1-1) got the loss as he went one out past three innings and allowed the first seven Broncos runs. Laredo starter Brian Buchanan (1-1) got the win as he allowed only five hits and one earned run in five and two-thirds innings. Amarillo batters TJ Warren and Alberto Cruz hit their first homeruns of the season in the effort.

Laredo would again take a multi-run lead as Ryan Flynn doubled home Doug Thennis in the second, while Nick Mahin doubled home a run in the third and scored on a Thennis double for a three-run lead. The Broncos added four runs off five hits in the fourth inning for a 7-0 lead.

Amarillo would finally get on the board in the fifth as Jermel Lomack popped a foul ball, but Mahin dropped it to keep the at-bat alive. Lomack would single, followed by a stolen base and an Adam De La Garza walk. Joaquin Rodriguez followed with a single to score Lomack, while De La Garza scored on a Carlos Figueroa RBI single. Cruz added an RBI sacrifice fly to score Rodriguez, which cut the lead to four at 7-3.

The Broncos added more runs in the eighth as Mahin drove home two runs with a double. Mahin would come across on a wild pitch for a 10-3 advantage.

In the eighth, Cruz hit the first pitch he saw over left field wall for his first homer of the season. Following a Stephen Douglas single, Warren hit his first round-tripper of the season to pull the score within four at 10-6.

Three walks in the ninth and RBIs by Kenneth Gilbert and Dustin Spruill put the Laredo up six. The Dillas brought home two in the ninth on a Matt Ceriani bases-loaded single, but couldn't get anything more and fell by the score of 12-8.

With the loss, the Dillas fall to 7-6, while the Broncos improve to 4-9.
