Laredo Bucks News Release


LAREDO, Texas - The Laredo Bucks went 1-1-0 this past weekend. The Bucks beat Corpus Christi 2-1 in a shootout on the road. Saturday night it was Corpus Christi posting a 4-1 win over the Bucks. Laredo is 36-14-6 with a Southeast Division and Southern Conference best 78 points. Laredo has clinched both their fourth straight playoff berth and their third straight Southeast Division title. The Bucks are home this Friday night hosting Odessa, and then on Saturday they travel to Odessa to complete a home and home. UPCOMING PROMOTIONS

- The Bucks are home on Friday against Odessa. The first 2,500 fans get Thundersticks courtesy of Taco Palenque and Palenque Grill. There will be a post game skate.

- ODESSA JACKALOPES -

2005-06: This is the fifth of six match ups this year between the teams. The teams will each play three home games in the series. The Bucks shutout the Jackalopes on 11/25 3-0. David Lemanowicz had 37 saves to post the whitewash. On 12/2 the Jackalopes beat the Bucks 4-2 in Odessa. On 02/17 the Jackalopes posted a 2-1 shootout win over the Bucks in Odessa. The Bucks rebounded with a 4-3 overtime win on 02/26 at the LEC as defenseman Ladislav Kouba registered the game winner in sudden death.

2004-05: Laredo was 2-2-0 against the Jackalopes last year. Each team went 1-1-0 at home.

All-time: Laredo is 11-4-2 against Odessa, outscoring the Jackalopes 57-36. The Bucks are 7-1-1 at the LEC. The teams met in the first round of the 2003 CHL playoffs. The Bucks beat the Jackalopes three games to two.

BUCKS CLINCH PLAYOFF BERTH

- The Bucks clinched a playoff berth for the fourth straight season with a 2-1 shootout win last Friday night over Corpus Christi.

BUCKS CLINCH SE DIVISION TITLE

- The Bucks clinched their third straight Southeast Division title when Rio Grande Valley lost 3-1 to Bossier-Shreveport on Wednesday night.

CHL BEST OF THE BEST POLL RESULTS

- Terry Ruskowski was selected as the Best Coach in the annual poll as he received six first place votes and 30 total points. In the 2004 CHL Best of the Best poll Ruskowski was selected as the second Best Coach.

- Bucks captain Brent Cullaton was selected as the second Best Skater receiving five first place votes. The last two seasons Cullaton was selected as the Best Skater in the CHL.

- Bucks defenseman Serge Dube was honored as the second best Offensive Defenseman in the CHL, receiving five first place votes. It is his first appearance in the Best of the Best poll.

- Bucks forward Jeff Bes was named the third Best Playmaker, receiving one first place vote. Two years ago he was selected as the Best Playmaker. He was also second in Best Stick Handler, Best Penalty Killer, and third in Best Overall Player in the 2004 poll.

- Third year Bucks forward Steve Simoes was picked the third best Defensive Forward, garnering two first place votes. It is his first appearance in the Best of the Best poll.

- Laredo Bucks fans were selected as the second Best Fans and also as the third Most Annoying Fans, meaning they effectively get under the skin of opposing teams. Bucks fans were honored as the Best Fans in the CHL in the 2004 poll.

- The Laredo Entertainment Center, where the Bucks have posted a 23-4-1 record this season, was voted the second Toughest Place to Win. Last year the LEC was the third Toughest Place to Win, while two years ago it captured first place honors.

- The Bucks were selected as having the second Best Uniforms in the CHL, getting three first place votes. The Bucks were also selected second last year and in 2004 were voted as having the Best Uniforms in the CHL.

- The Laredo Bucks Booster Club was honored as the second Best Booster Club with three first place votes.

SEASON LOW

- The Bucks had just two power play chances last Saturday night in a 4-1 loss at Corpus Christi. That matched the Bucks season low for power play chances in a game done twice, on 02/24 at Corpus Christi and originally on 02/10 at Fort Worth.

SEASON HIGH LOSS - The Bucks lost by three goals in a 4-1 defeat last Saturday in Corpus Christi. It matched the Bucks season high for biggest defeat of the year, done three times now, last on 01/13 at Bossier-Shreveport by the score of 3-0 and 02/24 at Corpus Christi also by the score of 3-0.

ONE GOAL OR LESS SCORED MEANS TOUGH TO WIN

- The Bucks fell to 0-5-1 when they score one goal or less this season after losing 4-1 in Corpus Christi last Saturday. Laredo picked up their first point when scoring one goal with a 2-1 shootout loss in Odessa on 02/17.

PENALTY KILL RED HOT

- The Bucks have stopped 49 of the last 51 (96.1 %) opponent power play chances over the last eight games, including 24 straight.

POWER PLAY STRUGGLING

- Laredo is 7 for their last 73 (9.6 %) on the man advantage.

BUCKS SCORE 200th GOAL - Bucks forward James Hiebert registered the Bucks 200th goal of the season last Friday night in a 2-1 shootout victory. Hiebert's goal came in the shootout.

- 03/04/06 - SATURDAY - @ CORPUS CHRISTI - The Laredo Bucks fell 4-1 to the Corpus Christi Rayz in front of 4,268 fans at the American Bank Center on Saturday night. The Bucks four game win streak came to an end with the loss. Laredo is 36-14-6 with a Southeast Division and Southern Conference best 78 points. The Bucks are home against the Odessa Jackalopes this Friday night. Face off set for 7:30 p.m. The Bucks magic number to clinch the Southeast Division title is two points. Dov Grumet-Morris allowed four goals on 33 shots and took the loss to fall to 14-5-2. Scott Reid stopped 28 of 29 shots and got the win to improve to 14-16-3. FINAL SCORE Corpus Christi 4, Laredo 1.

- 03/03/06 - FRIDAY - @ CORPUS CHRISTI - The Laredo Bucks clinched a playoff berth for the fourth straight season by beating the Corpus Christi Rayz 2-1 in a shootout at the American Bank Center. The Bucks have won four straight and have recorded points in eight of their last nine games. Laredo is 36-13-6 with a Southeast Division and Southern Conference best 78 points. The Bucks are in Corpus Christi again on Saturday. The Bucks magic number to clinch the Southeast Division title is two points. Lemanowicz stopped 24 of 25 shots and four of five in the shootout to get the win and improve to 15-4-3. Scott Reid stopped 32 of 33 shots, but allowed two of five to score in the shootout and fell to 13-16-2. FINAL SCORE Laredo 2, Corpus Christi 1 in a shootout.
