Published on March 9, 2006 under Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release
The Central Hockey League has announced the six finalists for each of four year-end player awards. CHL member teams nominated players for consideration on the final ballot, and the list of nominees was trimmed to six finalists for each award. Voting is currently underway among all CHL head coaches, communications staffs and selected media members in each market to determine the award recipients.
Amarillo center Derek Hahn (leading the CHL in points) and CHL goal scoring leader Jeff Christian of the Youngstown SteelHounds appear as Most Valuable Player finalists, along with Wichita's Joe Blaznek (CHL-leading 19 power play goals), 04-05 CHL MVP Greg Pankewicz of the Colorado Eagles, 4-time CHL All-Star Sebastien Thinel of the Odessa Jackalopes and Bossier-Shreveport captain Dan Wildfong, recently named the CHL's âBest Leader' in the annual âBest of the Best" poll.
Bossier-Shreveport's Ken Carroll, Colorado's Paulo Colaiacovo and Oklahoma City's Sean Connors are candidates for the Scott Brower Memorial Trophy (Most Outstanding Goaltender), along with Odessa's Mike Gorman, Wichita's Sebastien Laplante and Laredo's David Lemanowicz.
Most Outstanding Defenseman honors will go to one of six players, with Laredo's Serge Dube, Oklahoma City's Tyler Fleck, Memphis' Derek Landmesser, Austin's Aaron Schneekloth, Wichita's Daniel Tetrault and Colorado's Brad Williamson listed as finalists.
Three forwards and three defenseman appear on the CHL's Rookie of the Year ballot, including Tulsa left winger Jim Dahl, Odessa right winger Dominic Leveille and Austin right winger Michael Tucciarone. Rearguards Dale Lupul of the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, Jeff Mushaluk of the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees and Adam Rivet of the Laredo Bucks also earn consideration.
The CHL Coach of the Year will be selected through balloting among all CHL coaches, while the Equipment Manager of the Year (the Gunner Garrett award) and Athletic Trainer of the Year will be determined through peer balloting. The CHL Man of the Year award for outstanding community service will be selected by the CHL front office based on nominations and supporting materials from member teams, as will the Rick Kozuback award for commitment and perseverance. The regular season point leader will receive the Joe Burton Award as CHL scoring champion, and balloting among CHL coaches will select both the All-CHL and All-Rookie teams.
