Laredo Bucks Coach Terry Ruskowski Signs 2-Year Extension

Laredo Bucks News Release

(LAREDO, TX) -- Today Laredo Bucks ownership announced that head coach Terry Ruskowski has signed an extension contract for two additional years with the team. Ruskowski's initial contract commits him to the franchise through 2004.

"There is no question that Terry has earned this contract extension for his efforts last year. Terry demonstrated his coaching ability by bringing together a group of players in their inaugural season and molding them into a championship-contending team. Terry also demonstrated his leadership off the ice by supporting and encouraging the youth of Laredo, and giving his time to many community fundraisers. We are all fortunate that Terry considers Laredo his home and I know that many Laredoans consider Terry part of their family," said Julian "Kiki" DeAyala, president/owner Laredo Bucks.

Ruskowski led the Bucks to the best home record in the Central Hockey League, the second-best overall record and a trip to the conference finals. Laredo topped the CHL in goals and fights and, thanks in large part to Ruskowski, earned "Franchise of the Year" honors.

"Having worked with Terry in the past, during my ownership of the Houston Aeros, the only man I ever envisioned as the Bucks' coach was Terry. I knew that he was not only a tremendous coach, but also a great ambassador for the sport of hockey. Terry was literally the only coach on the planet that I would have hired a year in advance of our first game. He quickly became a member of the Laredo community, and played a huge role in introducing the region to hockey," said Glenn Hart, owner, Laredo Bucks.

"To have the second best regular season record in the first year of the franchise, as well as advancing to the conference finals and be only one bad call from upsetting the "evil empire" of the Austin Ice Bats was an incredible accomplishment. The owners want to reward Terry for a job well done, with a two-year extension of his contract that ensures he will be with the Bucks at least through the 2006-2007 season," Hart added.

The Bucks begin the 2003-04 CHL campaign October 18th on the road against the Corpus Christi Rayz. The Bucks home opener at the Laredo Entertainment Center is set for Friday, October 24th versus the San Angelo Saints. For season tickets call (956) 718-BUCKS.
